Halloween

Halloween can be fun even without all the costumes, candy, and rotten teeth!
Here is how our Halloween went:
I got up early yesterday so I could squeeze in my Biggest Loser workout (I am walking 10 miles on Saturday for our local FFA chapter raising money for diabetes so I need to be able to make it!).  We got our chores done and while the kids did their morning 'list' I started 2 loaves of bread raising and put chili in the crockpot.  Next we carved our pumpkins. We saved the seeds, cleaned them up, and we left them in saltwater to soak. (We will cook them today)

Wichita's, Montana's, Wyatt's

After that the kids played a game and I got my bread finished and did 2 miles of Biggest Loser power walking.  The kids then went outside to play and I got lunch ready.  We had "pumpkin chili".  I didn't actually put pumpkin in the chili because they don't like it that way.  I cut the top off some mini-pumpkins and cleaned them out and then poured the chili in the "bowls".  They loved it!!

Cut off tops, clean out "guts" and pour in chili - we were even able to rinse these out and use them for supper

After lunch we had to do a little school work and when that was finished we played Risk.  About 2/3 through the game we had to take a break so we could do chores.  The kids warmed themselves up some leftover chili and mashed potatoes for supper while I walked my 3 miles for the evening.  After I got back I ate supper while they finished watching a show they started, then back to the game.  We finished the game around 9:00pm.  We had lots of fun.  The kids spent a little time playing games on facebook and then off to bed.  We had a great day just spending time doing fun things together.
Last Wednesday Montana went to a Halleluljah Party at church where she played carnival type games, had hot chocolate & pizza, sang songs, and went on a hay ride.  The boys had a party at Preteens along the same lines.  They all did get some candy and small toy prizes there, which makes it easier to skip the costume/candy part of Halloween :)
