October: Keeping your body & spirit in shape

Our church is involved in a program called Engage the Word - a program that encourages people and families to get into God's word on a daily basis.  It started Sept. 25 and lasts for 40 days.
Most of you know that I am involved in a weight loss competition.  The first competition was April-July and the second one is August-November 15.  In order to do well in this competition, I have had to change my exercise habits and the amount of food I eat.
These two things may seem to be completely unrelated, but I think they are directly related.  To get my body in shape I have to work at it.  I have to exercise EVERY DAY.  If I miss a day or two, especially if I miss several days in a row, I quickly fall out of shape and have to work to get back to where I was.  To get my faith "in shape" I have to work at it.  I have to be in God's Word EVERY DAY.  If I miss a day or two, especially if I miss several days in a row, I quickly fall out of the habit and miss out on the blessings God wants to give me.
This brings me to my point (yes, I have one).  I am going to spend the month of October getting my body and spirit in shape, in an effort to make both of these things a habit, as well as to improve my spiritual and physical health.  For the next 31 days I am giving up 2 hours of my day EVERY DAY.  I plan to spend one hour each day in God's Word and one hour each day walking/jogging.  I will post my progress as I go.
Join me in getting in shape!
