Today Wichita turns 12 years old. So many things have changed and so many things have happened in the past 12 years, and yet it seems like only yesterday.
Monday morning, October 18, 1999. I had been to the hospital once already with fake contractions so I decided to ride in the truck with Kevin on Monday morning so if I needed to go, he could take me. We made one trip from Bartlett to Emmett with hog feed and around lunchtime, on our way through O'neill, we decided it was time to go to the hospital. Wichita was born later that day and the very image of his face, when they handed him to me, is still emblazoned in my memory! He was the biggest of my three kids and he still is. At 12 years of age, he is wearing a size 11 men's shoe, size 16 boys clothes. He is almost as tall as me and, although I don't plan to find out, he could probably take me in a wrestling match. He has grown physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually ....and how I love to watch him grow :)
While I don't miss the days of having a baby in the house, it does make me sad that time has gone by so quickly. I think of where we will be in another 12 years and how quickly that time will also pass. Wichita could have a child of his own by then!!!!
Happy Birthday Ta! ...only 365 days left until teenager status :)
