Peaches & Mango

Yesterday and today we worked on building a fence for our 2 new calves. We only had to put in 2 sides of the fence because the other 2 were already there. Kevin asked a couple of his friends, James & Darby, to come and help us (and show us how to build a fence). Kevin brought the post hole digger on the tractor from the feedlot so we wouldn't have to dig them all by hand. We managed to get the south side done on Sunday and started on the east side. This morning this kids and I had to put in the last 3 wires and get the calves into the pen. We haven't built a gate yet - we just built the fence straight through. It was a lot of work, but was great learning something new and feeling the sense of accomplishment at having got it done.

The calves, Peaches & Mango, are loving their new home (grass and trees) is way better than being shut up in the shed. They eat a little bit of grass and we've been trying to teach them to eat grain - mostly they just drink their milk and sleep - they are good fat burners. I want to halter train them so the one I keep for a milk cow will be able to be led around and stay calm.
